The United States\u2019 National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Canada\u2019s Communications Security Establishment (CSE) created the Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2 (FIPS 140-2) as a standard for systems that process sensitive, but unclassified (SBU) information, to address that need.
